Training role of Carlos Loredo, PhD, and Benita Rubinett, LCSW

As trainers, Carlos Loredo and Benita Rubinett help Texas After Violence Project team members

- understand the psychological dynamics involved in interviewing, constructing narratives about ourselves, grief, mourning, complicated grief, disenfranchised mourning, and trauma,

- understand why we conduct interviews in certain ways, and the consequences of other kinds of interventions,

- clarify those things that we must do in interviews, those things that we must not do in interviews, and the large discretionary range of behaviors in which our individual personalities and judgments do and should determine how we proceed,

- make conscious decisions,

- learn and practice techniques for interviewing,

- learn and practice strategies for self-care, and

- work with us on other issues as needed.

They also act as consultants and
provide regular facilitated debriefing for Texas After Violence Project team members as a group and one-on-one debriefing or counseling sessions on request.
