Final Cut Pro to DVD

Convert FCP File to MPEG-2

- Open FCP
o File>Import> select file
o Select sequence
• Export> Using Compressor

- Compressor will automatically open
o Go to Destinations window to select final Compressor output and add preset job
o Settings tab
• Apple folder> DVD folder
• Select “DVD Best Quality 120 minutes”
• Click and drag into Batch window
o (this creates an AC-3 audio file and MPEG-2 video file, both of which are needed for DVD Studio Pro)
o Destinations tab
• Select Apple folder> Desktop
• Click and drag Desktop into Batch window, twice: once into audio file, once into video file
• Click “Submit” in Batch window
o Progress bar will display in FCP window (this is the most time-consuming step)
o After processing, sources in Batch window will display red warning status
• To “restore job” (turn text back into black and therefore usable) move finished encoded files from desktop “destination” to another location, then click in the blue job area of Batch window.
• Basically, go back to Destinations tab in Destinations window
o Click on Apple folder
o Re-click and drag a different location icon into Batch window (try User’s Movies Folder, for instance)
o Icons for MPEG-2 file and AC-3 file should then be visible on the desktop

- Open DVD Studio Pro
o In Assets folder, select Import
• Shift to select both audio and video clip, import
o Batch window will default to one Menu window and one Track menu
• Green ball in status window means video is ready to be used
• Click and drag clip from Asset window into the blank track
• Select menu and enter title page text

- To enter a Play button and link it to the video:
o Go to Palette window> select Styles tab> Apple> Buttons
• Click and drag button onto Menu page
• Box will open below Palette window where you can type in the name of the button
o To link the button to the video
• Control click button> select Track> Tracks and Stories> Select clip

- To burn DVD
o File> Burn…
